Why Redding?
Why are people relocating to Redding, California?
People are relocating to Redding, California because it offers something many buyers have been searching for: more freedom in the way they live, less stress. Here, you can own more home, more land, and enjoy a lifestyle that balances everyday convenience with year-round outdoor recreation. Combined with a lower cost of living than many California metropolitan areas, reasonable commute times, and easy access to shopping, healthcare, dining, and Redding Regional Airport, Redding continues to attract buyers looking for a place where life simply works better.
What is it really like to live in Redding, California
For buyers considering living in Redding, California, the lifestyle is every bit as rewarding as the property itself. Life here naturally keeps you active. Whether you’re caring for horses, maintaining your acreage, exploring Shasta Lake, fishing the Sacramento River, hiking nearby trails, or simply enjoying the outdoors, staying healthy becomes part of everyday living instead of another item on your calendar. At the same time, you’re only minutes from shopping, excellent local restaurants, healthcare, and Redding Regional Airport, giving you the rare combination of country living and everyday convenience. It’s a lifestyle that offers more freedom, more balance, and the opportunity to truly enjoy the property you’ve worked so hard to own.
Why do equestrians choose Redding?
Why do equestrians choose Redding, California?
Redding is home to one of the most active and diverse equestrian communities in Northern California. Whether your passion is cutting, reining, roping, barrel racing, dressage, hunter/jumpers, ranch riding, High School Rodeo, or breeding exceptional horses, you’ll find a community that shares your passion. From competitive riders to those who simply enjoy owning beautiful horses on their own acreage, Redding welcomes every level of equestrian lifestyle.
The region offers miles of riding trails, private arenas, boarding and training facilities, weekend horse shows, rodeos, clinics, and equestrian events throughout the year. Horse trailers are a common sight on local highways, a reflection of how deeply horses are woven into everyday life. Add experienced veterinarians, knowledgeable farriers, quality feed suppliers, and abundant horse properties in Redding and throughout Northern California, and it’s easy to understand why so many horse owners choose to relocate here.
For me, one of the greatest rewards is being surrounded by people who understand and appreciate horses as much as I do. Whether you’re raising a few exceptional foals each year, competing in your chosen discipline, or simply enjoying a ride through the countryside, Redding offers the space, community, and resources to support the equestrian lifestyle.
What outdoor recreation makes Redding special?
One of the greatest advantages of living in Redding, California is that adventure is never far away. Within minutes, you can be boating or swimming on Shasta Lake, fishing the world-famous Sacramento River, kayaking at Whiskeytown Lake, horseback riding on miles of scenic trails, or hiking through some of Northern California’s most beautiful landscapes.
A short drive opens the door to skiing and hiking around Mount Shasta, exploring Lassen Volcanic National Park, mountain biking, golfing, camping, and countless lakes, rivers, and public lands. Many residents spend weekends discovering hidden coves on Shasta Lake, watching bald eagles soar overhead, spotting deer along the shoreline, or simply enjoying the peace that comes from being surrounded by nature.
After more than 25 years of living in Redding, I’ve experienced nearly everything this area has to offer, from boating, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and exploring Northern California, to weekends in Oregon wine country and performances at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The only outdoor activity I haven’t taken up is hunting. That’s one of the things I love most about living here. No matter the season, there’s always another adventure waiting just beyond your front gate.
How convenient is living in Redding?
Convenience is one of the greatest luxuries Churn Creek Estate offers. After owning three ranches, I learned I didn’t want a beautiful property that required a 25 to 30-minute drive for every errand. I wanted a true ranch lifestyle without feeling isolated. Here, Costco, grocery stores, Home Depot, local restaurants, feed stores, veterinarians, two hospitals, and Redding Regional Airport with daily service to San Francisco are all just minutes away. Yet when I return home, the pace changes completely. Horses graze outside my window, the garden calls, the barn is only a short walk away, and the world seems to disappear. Visitors often tell me, “I had no idea a place like this existed here.” That’s exactly what makes Churn Creek Estate so special. It offers the privacy, freedom, and beauty of a Northern California ranch while keeping everything you need within easy reach.
Is Redding a good place to retire or work remotely?
Absolutely. Whether you’re planning your retirement or simply looking for a better way to live while continuing your career, Redding offers a combination that’s becoming increasingly difficult to find.
I didn’t move here to retire. I moved here to create a better life. Today, I continue to manage my business from Churn Creek Estate in a beautiful office that’s completely separate from the living areas of the home. I enjoy the peace and privacy of ranch living every day, yet when business calls, it’s only about a 3-hour and 15-minute drive door to door to Tiburon.
One of the biggest surprises has been how much farther my money goes. Compared to the Bay Area, everyday expenses such as groceries, homeowners insurance, property taxes, and many other living costs are noticeably lower. It’s refreshing to reach the end of the week and still have money left in your wallet instead of wondering where it all went.
For me, this property offers the best of both worlds. I can run a successful business, step outside to my horses, work in the garden, enjoy the beauty of the ranch, and still remain connected to the Bay Area whenever I need to be. Whether you’re entering retirement, working remotely, or simply looking for a place where life feels more balanced, Churn Creek Estate proves you don’t have to choose between opportunity and quality of life. Here, you really can have both.
Why did we choose Redding?
Twenty-five years ago, I left the Bay Area with a clear vision. I wanted to remain close enough to continue managing my business in Tiburon, yet far enough away to build the life I had always imagined. I drew a line on the map and decided I didn’t want to be more than a three-hour commute from my office. Redding was the perfect answer.
My dream was to build an exceptional Quarter Horse breeding program, wake each morning to broodmares and foals, ride young colts, learn from talented horsemen, and create a ranch where business, family, and the western lifestyle could all exist together. Churn Creek Estate became the place where those dreams came to life.
As the years passed, this ranch became far more than a beautiful property. It became the headquarters for a thriving business, a place where I could work in a spacious office separated from the living quarters, then walk outside to the barn, the horses, or the garden. It gave me a healthier, more active lifestyle without asking me to give up the career I loved. I discovered I could enjoy the best of both worlds, building a successful remote business while remaining connected to the Bay Area whenever I needed to be.
Life has a way of changing us. My thirteen-horse family has gradually become two beloved horses. My business continues to grow, but it no longer requires the same amount of acreage or the daily demands that once brought me so much joy. The dream this ranch helped me fulfill has simply evolved.
I’ve often said that Churn Creek Estate didn’t just give me a place to live. It gave me the life I had hoped for. Every morning in the barn, every foal that took its first steps, every young horse I had the privilege to train, every friendship made, and every business milestone achieved from my office became part of this place.
Leaving isn’t easy because this ranch has given me far more than I ever expected. But one of life’s greatest privileges is knowing when a dream has been fulfilled and having the opportunity to pass it on to someone whose own dream is just beginning.
If you’ve dreamed of owning a remarkable horse property in Northern California, building a family ranch, operating a successful business from home, or simply creating a life with more freedom, more balance, and more purpose, I hope Churn Creek Estate becomes that place for you.
After twenty-five unforgettable years, it’s time for me to pass the torch. I can’t imagine a better place for someone else to begin the next chapter than right here.
Much love,
Lisa
